The industry project "KAZA - Sustainable Lodges" has successfully demonstrated how successful cooperation between development cooperation and the tourism industry can work in practice. After two final workshops, the Futouris industry project is nearing completion

KAZA as a lighthouse project: presentation of project results at ITB
As part of the ITB, key results of the Futouris industry project were presented at the panel discussion "Development cooperation in practice: sustainable tourism offers in the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA)". Guests included representatives from the KAZA secretariat, two owners of sustainable lodges, Manuel Bollmann from the Fair Trade Tourism certification organization and Diana Körner (mascontour) from the project team. The event was moderated by project manager Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Strasdas.
In cooperation with various certification partners operating in the KAZA region, the number of sustainable lodges in the area has been successfully increased, and there are currently 62 certified lodges . The project offers many benefits for the stakeholders involved: The certified lodges contribute to biodiversity and local prosperity and benefit from being included in the product portfolios or highlighted in the catalogs of Futouris member companies. At the same time, the tour operators can make their travel packages more sustainable.
Final workshop in Frankfurt: Integration of sustainable lodges into the travel offer
The participating project partners came together at the final KAZA workshop in Frankfurt on March 16. First, the project results were presented by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Strasdas and Diana Körner. In addition to mediating between the stakeholders involved, recording and mapping the sustainable lodges and developing new travel routes, all the results were compiled in a brochure . This provides information on the standards for sustainable lodges as well as their location and exemplary travel routes along selected lodges through the KAZA region.
An important item on the agenda of the final workshop was the joint planning of the integration of the certified lodges into the product portfolio of Futouris tour operators. The project partners discussed the current status of the catalog planning, the possibilities of communicating the KAZA project in the catalog and the associated challenges.
They also discussed how long-term cooperation with the KAZA project partners (lodges and certification organizations) can be structured after the end of the Futouris project. Plans for a final documentation were also reported on, focusing on best practices developed during the project.
