Envision Tourism 2030 and Beyond - how do we achieve net zero? CEOs from Futouris member companies met to discuss this topic as part of our "CEO Talk" in Frankfurt in order to jointly shape a climate-friendly future for tourism

How can the global tourism industry achieve climate neutrality by 2050? What steps will be necessary on this path? How will this affect the business of tour operators and the products they offer? How can we tackle these major challenges together and develop new opportunities from them?

The widely acclaimed study "Envisioning Tourism in 2030 and Beyond" by the Travel Foundation & Breda University investigated these questions and showed that there is only one scenario for the tourism industry that can reconcile the industry's forecast growth with the net zero target for 2050: The so-called "Tourism Decarbonization Scenario".

Jeremy Sampson, CEO of the Travel Foundation, kicked off the CEO Talk with an inspiring keynote speech in which he presented the key findings of the study and outlined the changes required in the tourism sector to achieve the climate targets by 2050. Futouris Managing Director Swantje Lehners and Deputy Futouris Chairman Ralf Hieke then discussed with CEOs Ingo Burmester from the DERTOUR Group, Laura Meyer from the Hotelplan Group and Ingo Lies from Chamäleon. The discussion was moderated by Prof. Dr. Christian Baumgartner from the Futouris Science Advisory Board.

It was important to the participants to engage in a dialog at the highest management level, to exchange best practices and to identify common norms and standards. This also serves as a sign that the Futouris member companies recognize the relevance of the topic at top management level and want to drive it forward together.

As part of the joint project on climate-friendly product design, Futouris is already working intensively on the development of measures to reduce emissions in the product portfolios. The event provided a valuable platform for exchanging these ideas directly with the CEOs of the participating member companies and thinking them through further.

The evening ended with a delicious vegan dinner, where the discussions could be deepened in an informal atmosphere. A big thank you to all participants for the stimulating discussions!
