Successful ITB panel discussion on "Pioneering the Transition towards Net Zero: Climate Footprints Unveiled"

The tourism industry is pursuing a common goal: net zero emissions. But how can this ambitious goal be achieved? The ITB panel discussion "Pioneering the Transition towards Net Zero: Climate Footprints Unveiled" focused on the mechanisms of a successful transformation, from the development of practical measures to the mobilization of stakeholders towards the jointly set goal. CEOs from Futouris member companies demonstrated the concrete measures they are taking to ensure transparency of the climate impact of travel at the point of sale and to make travel more climate-friendly

Climate-friendly travel through transparency of climate footprints
Futouris Managing Director and KlimaLink CEO Swantje Lehners discussed on stage with Laura Meyer (CEO of Hotelplan Group), Markus Orth (CEO of Lufthansa City Center) and Ingo Burmester (CEO of DER Touristik) the joint project to make the climate footprints of travel visible at the point of sale. As part of the KlimaLink initiative, key players in the tourism industry are joining forces to promote transparent CO2e-labeling of travel components in order to have a lasting impact on customer behaviour, product development and market dynamics. The initiative supports tour operators in making the trips they offer more climate-friendly and at the same time enables customers to make informed, climate-friendly booking decisions.
Progress of the climate-conscious travel industry project
Swantje Lehners presented the current progress of the industry project, in which a uniform, comparable calculation standard for the climate footprint was developed and finalized in the first step for flights, buses, trains, cars and hotels. The developed emissions data platform KlimaLink will be launched for KlimaLink members at the end of March and will also be launched as a free B2B platform for the industry in the middle of the year. A label was developed to effectively display the climate footprint at the point of sale, which Swantje Lehners gave the panel visitors an exclusive first look at.
Moving more together: cooperation as part of KlimaLink
The CEOs then discussed the motivation for supporting the project and practical solutions in terms of product design and communication at the point of sale.
It became clear that the sustainable transformation of the industry can only be achieved through broad cooperation. The KlimaLink e.V. initiative is looking forward to welcoming more committed partners who want to act as pioneers by making travel emissions transparent and thus contributing to sustainable tourism.
