Harvest time on Crete

As part of our joint project with the TUI Care Foundation and SFDO, we support farmers and food producers on Crete in switching to regenerative agriculture. In the actively participating vocational school for agriculture in Platanias, the students were able to harvest their home-grown vegetables after successful training and regenerative farming. These were processed into delicious dishes as part of a tasting event.

Sustainably harvested, deliciously served - regenerative agriculture on Crete
In our joint project with the TUI Care Foundation and local partner SFDO | Sustainable Food Destination Organization® , we support farmers and food producers in switching to regenerative agriculture, for example by providing training in the fields.
In addition to over 30 farmers, 8 hotels and 14 food producers, the vocational evening school for agriculture in Platanias is also taking part in the project. At this school, (young) adults can study agriculture and gain a practical insight into the topic.
With the participation of the vocational school in the project, the topic of "regenerative agriculture" is now an integral part of the teaching program and the students put what they have learned directly into practice.
The collaboration also includes the creation of kitchen gardens on the school grounds, where the students learn and implement regenerative agricultural practices under the guidance of agronomists from the local partner.
In spring, the students in the current program created a field sketch, prepared the field with organic material and planted summer crops such as tomatoes, peppers and zucchinis - using regenerative cultivation methods, of course. These include, for example, working the soil only when necessary and using a hand excavator with slow rotation to prepare the soil and incorporate organic fertilizer.
After six months of intensive preparation and cultivation, the time had come: "Harvest time"! The harvested vegetables were delivered to the Minoa Palace in Chania, one of the participating project hotels, and turned into delicious dishes for the guests as part of a tasting event.
