Women's initiative produces 80 aprons for local restaurants

In a joint project with the TUI Care Foundation and KATE in cooperation with TourCert in the Las Galeras region in the northeast of the Dominican Republic, 10 restaurants are being supported in the development of biodiversity-friendly menus with local food. In addition, local initiatives and companies are to be involved and visitors and guests are to be made aware of the offer.

Women's initiative produces kitchen aprons from recycled materials
The women's initiative "Ecobolsos" has produced a total of 80 kitchen aprons for the 10 participating restaurants. These aprons are made from recycled materials and display the logo of the respective restaurant.
Ecobolsos is an initiative run entirely by and for women with the aim of recycling materials. They collect fabrics that would normally end up in incinerators and use them to make new items of clothing, such as aprons.
Circuito Sostenible de Samana
The 10 participating restaurants are also part of the "Circuito Sostenible de Samana", a project that brings together existing initiatives, organizations and businesses in the province of Samaná that are committed to greater sustainability.
The aim of the Circuito Sostenible is to create a route that allows local or foreign visitors to see, enjoy and use local and sustainable products and/or services. To this end, the Dominican Ministry of Tourism has financed the geo-referencing of the catering establishments on this route.
