Tourism is a contributor to climate change, but also a victim

With 5% of all greenhouse gas emissions each year, tourism is a contributor to climate change, but is also severely affected by the consequences, for example through polluted beaches, melting glaciers or unattractive diving areas due to coral bleaching. This can be counteracted with climate-friendly vacation offers.

Climate protection is primarily about

  • avoiding emissions

  • reducing emissions (e.g. by traveling by train)

  • offsetting unavoidable emissions. This only makes sense if investments are made in technologies that reduce CO2 emissions elsewhere, for example by promoting renewable energies.
