As part of the Futouris industry project Plastic-Free Holidays, Balearic Islands, TUI MAGIC LIFE Cala Pada in Ibiza is testing plastic reduction measures such as the elimination of single-use plastic products and plastic water bottles. Five drinking water stations and reusable water bottles have been introduced to reduce plastic waste and offer guests high-quality drinking water.

Reducing plastic by eliminating plastic water bottles

As part of the Futouris industry project "Plastic-free vacations, Balearic Islands", practical measures to reduce plastic waste are being tested in participating hotels this year. One of these participating hotels is the TUI MAGIC LIFE Cala Pada on Ibiza. In recent years, the hotel has already successfully worked on reducing plastic products, for example, there are no more disposable plastic products in the guest rooms. This year, the abolition of plastic water bottles was on the agenda as part of the Futouris industry project.

Drinking water stations and reusable water bottles

In order to continue offering guests unlimited drinking water while reducing plastic waste, five water stations were set up in the hotel in collaboration with partner aguaKMzero. In addition, reusable drinking water bottles from the non-profit organization Cleanwave are offered to guests.

Guests can now get fresh, filtered drinking water at any time at reception or in the pool area. Information at the water stations not only provides information about the measure, but also points guests to the drinking water fountains available on the Balearic Islands, where reusable drinking bottles can be refilled free of charge.

Win Win: plastic savings and improved guest satisfaction

In total, TUI MAGIC LIFE Cala Pada saves 120,000 large and almost 10,000 small plastic water bottles per season with the new water stations, which corresponds to around 5,500 kg of plastic. In addition, the service for guests will be improved due to the higher water quality at the water stations.

Deputy General Manager Guiseppe Lazarro is very pleased with the installation of the water stations and the improved guest experience: "After a long period of planning and organization, we were able to introduce these filtered mineral water machines and we can confirm with joy, pride and full satisfaction that the system works perfectly and our guests accept and welcome this change. We firmly believe that sustainability and profitability must be in balance, and in this case it is not only a sustainable and profitable measure, but is also reflected in the satisfaction of our guests."
