Comparative final measurement on board

The final measurement in the project to reduce food waste on cruise ships took place on Mein Schiff 4.

In the run-up to the measurement, extensive measures were implemented in August and September to specifically prevent food from ending up in the garbage can on board. The final measurement now provides an initial indication of how effective the measures to reduce waste have been.

The initial results are promising: around 20% of food waste has already been reduced in the Anckelmannsplatz buffet restaurant. Simple measures such as the use of smaller containers for keeping food warm as well as trays and baskets on the buffet have already helped. "An incredibly great result," says Lucienne Damm, Deputy Chairwoman of Futouris and Environmental Manager at TUI Cruises. "And the project is not over yet. We hope that we can achieve even better results." Once the evaluations have been completed, it is planned to extend the measures to the entire TUI Cruises fleet in 2018.
