In June 2015, Wolfgang Strasdas presented the Futouris project "Sustainable Lodges" in the KAZA region and established important partnerships with local organizations. The aim is to develop a common sustainability standard for lodges, which will be further negotiated with regional stakeholders in September.

Wolfgang Strasdas, our consultant for the Futouris industry project "Sustainable Lodges" in the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA), presented the project in Namibia and South Africa from June 10 to 15, 2015 and spoke with potential project partners.

On June 12, an initial information event was held in the Namibian capital Windhoek in cooperation with the Namibia Tourism Board as part of the Tourism Expo, which was also attended by tourism professionals from the KAZA countries of Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Cooperation agreements were signed with the local organizations Fair Trade Tourism (FTT) and EcoAwards Namibia. FTT will offer advice and training to interested lodges in Zimbabwe and Zambia that are not yet certified.

Some Futouris member companies also contributed to the first proposal for a standard for lodges in the project region at a workshop in Hanover in early July.

To reach the next major milestone - the final negotiation of the standard for sustainable lodges in the KAZA region - another event with local stakeholders will take place in Victoria Falls in September.
