Employees at TUI Blue hotels in Turkey successfully trained in sustainable food

In April, the first sustainable food training courses for hotel employees in Turkey were launched at TUI Blue Sarigerme Park. Employees from the kitchen, F&B and quality management departments of the three Turkish TUI Blue hotels received practical training on sustainable cuisine. The training content was adapted locally and delivered in Turkish. Topics included sustainable purchasing, local products at the buffet and reducing food waste. The aim of the training courses is to raise awareness for more sustainability in hotel gastronomy. Further training courses will follow in spring on the Canary Islands and Mallorca.

Start of staff training
After the Sustainable Food Trainers were trained in November 2018 as part of the "Train-the-Trainer" workshops for the implementation phase, the first training sessions for TUI hotel employees took place at TUI Blue Sarigerme Park in south-west Turkey at the beginning of April. Employees from the F&B area, the kitchen and quality management at the three TUI Blue hotels in Turkey (TUI Blue Marmaris, TUI Blue Sarigerme Park and TUI Blue Palm Garden) learned everything they need to know about sustainable cuisine.
Training content adapted to the local context
The sustainable food training course developed together with the project partners was adapted in advance to the Turkish context and local characteristics and delivered by a local trainer in the local language.
Practical knowledge for sustainable hotel gastronomy
During the one-day training course, trainer Hatice not only imparted knowledge on how to integrate sustainability into purchasing processes, but also how to offer more local and sustainable products and dishes at the buffet and how to communicate this to guests. The interested participants also received valuable information on the topic of reducing food waste in the business.
Raising awareness of sustainability in the hospitality industry
The aim of the training courses is to raise awareness of sustainability in hotel catering among the responsible F&B employees. The next Sustainable Food Trainings by Futouris are planned for the Canary Islands and Mallorca in spring.
