In cooperation between the world tourism organization UN Tourism, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and Futouris, a series of factsheets with useful information and tips for more sustainable food sourcing has been developed.

Cuisine: a key element of the tourist experience

Cuisine plays a central role in the tourist experience. The handling of food has a significant economic, social and environmental impact on destinations and local businesses. As an important part of the food value chain, the tourism sector can have a positive impact on the production and consumption of food.

As part of the One Planet Sustainable Tourism Program, Futouris has developed an informative factsheet series on sustainable food sourcing in collaboration with UN Tourism and the UN Environment Programme.

These factsheets provide concise information and practical tips on important aspects such as the climate and water footprint of various food products. They shed light on sustainability-relevant product categories such as meat and fish and explain the significance of certifications and seals (e.g. organic or fair trade).

The factsheets are available free of charge on the Futouris Knowledge World.
