TUI Field to Fork takes off on Rhodes!

After initial meetings were held last year with hotels, farmers and food producers on Rhodes who were interested in the project, trust was gained and the concept of regenerative agriculture was introduced, concrete measures and activities are now being implemented

Transferring the findings from Crete to Rhodes
As part of the "TUI Field to Fork Greece" project, together with the TUI Care Foundation and our local project partner Sustainable Food Destination Organization (SFDO), we have set ourselves the goal of supporting farmers and food producers on Crete and Rhodes in switching to regenerative agricultural practices and bringing regeneratively grown products closer to guests and travellers by linking them with the tourism industry.
Starting with activities on Crete, the findings from the joint project have also been implemented on Rhodes since last year. The aim is also to support farmers on Rhodes in switching to regenerative agricultural practices and to establish a close link with local food production and the tourism industry.
Workshop with the participating hotels
As part of a workshop, our project partner SFDO, with the support of Rhodes Co-Lab, presented the project activities to the five participating hotels, discussed requirements and challenges and agreed on the next steps. Further workshops, for example on the planned tasting events or the calculation of the carbon footprint for products, are already planned.
Preparation of cultivation plans with farmers
Meetings with the participating farmers were also on the agenda: firstly, the cultivation plans for this year were drawn up together with the farmers. These show which products will be grown and in what quantities (e.g. olives, tomatoes, pomegranates) and are then shared with the hotels in order to coordinate the purchase of the respective products. From April, the farmers start sowing or planting and implement regenerative cultivation practices. They are introduced to these in regular training sessions and visits to the fields. The first training session on the correct pruning of olive trees has already taken place.
A joint event is planned for April with all participating stakeholders to get to know each other and exchange ideas. Stay tuned!
