Project objectives
Food waste on cruise ships
Avoiding food waste is an important aspect of sustainable tourism. Studies on the extent to which and where food waste can be avoided on cruise ships have not yet been carried out.
As part of the TUI Care Foundation's commitment to Futouris, TUI Cruises is now working with United Against Waste e.V. to investigate the potential for avoiding food waste on board.
Together against food waste
An initial analysis phase was carried out on board Mein Schiff 4. Based on the results, TUI Cruises, together with United Against Waste and Futouris, is developing specific measures and testing them in a second project phase in summer 2017.
A catalog of measures will summarize the final results in order to train employees on board in a targeted manner and raise their awareness of how to avoid food waste. Successful measures will be expanded within the Mein Schiff fleet. TUI Cruises wants to use the study to provide impetus for the entire cruise industry: As part of the cooperation at Futouris e.V., the results will be made available for exchange with other companies and published for the entire industry in the long term.
