The new guide, “Climate Management in Hotels and Resorts”, helps hotels and resorts systematically reduce their CO₂e footprint through practical measures, a clear roadmap, and concrete recommendations for action.

How can hotels and resorts effectively reduce their CO₂e emissions and systematically integrate climate management into their operations? Answers to these questions are provided in the new guide, “Climate Management in Hotels and Resorts – A Guide to Reducing CO₂e Emissions in Hotel Operations”, published by Futouris in collaboration with Tourythm and myclimate.

The free guide is based on the findings of the Hotels Go Net Zero project, which was implemented together with pilot hotels from DERTOUR Hotels & Resorts and schauinsland-reisen. As part of on-site climate audits, the main sources of emissions in hotel operations were analyzed. A key finding was that energy consumption and the food and beverage sector are among the largest drivers of emissions. Around 60–80% of hotel emissions fall under Scope 3, meaning indirect emissions generated along the upstream and downstream value chain. This is also where the greatest potential for emissions reductions can be found.

The guide provides practical support for hotels and resorts seeking to introduce or further develop climate management within their operations. It includes:

  • An introduction to measuring the carbon footprint of hotels and resorts (Scopes 1–3)

  • Concrete measures in the areas of technology, food and beverage, and operational management, including clearly identified emission reduction potentials

  • A structured roadmap for implementing climate management in hotel operations

  • Key insights and lessons learned from project implementation

The guide offers hoteliers a practical tool for systematically measuring emissions, prioritizing reduction measures, and driving sustainable change within their businesses.

The guide is now available free of charge in the Futouris Knowledge Hub.
