Futouris, the sustainability initiative of the travel industry
Become a memberWe promote sustainable travel by making the entire tourism value chain step by step more environmentally and socially compatible.
A sustainable tourism industry in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Sustainable tourism is becoming the standard and combines unforgettable experiences with responsibility for people and nature.
Futouris is the sustainability initiative of the German-speaking tourism industry. Our goal is to preserve travel destinations for the long term, protect the environment and climate, and improve the living conditions of local people. Together with partners, we implement projects worldwide, develop practical solutions, and promote knowledge transfer. By doing so, we contribute to systematically embedding sustainability in tourism.
Tourism faces major challenges, from climate change to social inequalities in travel destinations. Futouris brings companies, organizations, and destinations together to develop and implement sustainable solutions. Because only together can we shape travel in a way that continues to do justice to people, nature, and culture worldwide.
The Futouris members developed the key themes presented below together. They serve as focus topics for collaboration at Futouris as well as guiding themes for project development.
...responsibility for future generations has no limits.
...traveling means respect and responsibility and must not be depletion of nature.
...I am convinced that only an intact environment and social balance combined with sustainable and resource-efficient development provide the foundation for the future of travel. We want to raise awareness of this through active communication and thus encourage those responsible to take positive action or support their activities.
...we at Gebeco see cooperative, collaborative management for the benefit of our guests as the core of our tourism activities and can only ensure this in the future when working together.
...I want to understand the chances and potential of sustainable tourism in discourse with the tourism industry and to support joint innovative ideas.
...as part of the travel & transport industry, I want to help to protect the ecosystem for our children in a sustainable way.
... I want to contribute to shape the tourism industry in a sustainable way and assume responsibility for the people, culture and nature in holiday destinations
...together with like-minded people I want to make the tourism industry a true pioneer of the sustainability movement.
...sustainable and responsible travel is team sport and the game has to be shaped by common ideas and goals.
...Chamäleon's goal has always been to give people in the destinations a better life and to preserve nature.

View toolkitWATER MAKES TOURISM POSSIBLE Tourism can’t exist without water. It keeps our pools full, our gardens green, our meals cooked, and our guests comfortable, but with less than 1% of the world’s fresh water being available for human consumption, we have reached a point where we need to seriously reconsider how we use it.
